Our main objective is to help kitties. Here’s how we do it.
-
Find forever homes for adoptable kittens and cats in our community
-
Establish a local fostering network to care for and socialize community kittens
-
Partner with out-of-area no-kill shelters and establish a volunteer network to transport to such shelters
-
Support island cat colony care takers by providing food, shelter, education and necessary veterinary care; including spay and neuter
-
Work with local Animal Control to save cats that are in danger of being euthanized
Future Goals
Establish a sanctuary for unadoptable community cats.
Volunteers Needed!
Let us know how you can help. Whether you’re available to adopt, foster, donate, or volunteer your time, we thank you for helping the Island Kitties.
Foster
We are a foster-based-network. Foster or adopt and save a life! Fostering is an excellent opportunity to temporarily house an animal that would otherwise be taking up space and resources in a shelter. What could be more fun?
Transport
We need help transporting our cats from Chincoteague to no kill shelters in Northern Virginia and New England. This could be a perfect opportunity if you’re here on vacation and would like to help.

Island Kitties was founded in 2022 by Gladys McCready Baczek and Doctor Holly Kossuth (DVM)
-
Gladys is a native of Chincoteague and local business owner. Felt not enough was being done for adoptable kittens, homeless cats, and the people that care for them.
-
Started and ran her own high volume TNR (trap-neuter-return) clinic in Pennsylvania before retiring to Chincoteague Island. Kerry handles our administrative work.

Originally from New York, Allyson retired and moved to the Eastern Shore. She serves as the treasurer and fundraising coordinator.
